My first milestone

Seperti yang telah disebutkan sebelumnya, saya sedikit terganggu dengan kebijakan Blogger yang melakukan redirect domain menyesuaikan origin country. Jadi yang tadinya suatu blog hanya bisa diakses melalui alamat something.blogspot.com, kini alamat tersebut bisa berubah-ubah menjadi something.blogspot.co.id, .co.jp, .co.in, atau domain country specific lainnya.

It's probably not a big deal.

Or is it?

Bagi saya, ini merupakan salah satu bentuk inkonsistensi. No matter how minor the impact is, it still bugs me.

Solusi yang saya pikirkan adalah dengan membeli domain sendiri, untuk kemudian di-set up sebagai custom domain untuk blog ini. Melalui pertimbangan lebih lanjut, saya memutuskan untuk menunda proses custom domain ini hingga jumlah tulisan yang diterbitkan di blog ini mencapai 100 buah.

It's a milestone!

Dengan begitu saya berharap bisa termotivasi untuk menulis secara produktif, karena memiliki sesuatu untuk dicapai. Lalu mengapa harus 100?

Well, it's a rounded number. Something identical to perfection. Beside, I believe when I could write a hundred posts I would be at the level where writing is something that I'm comfortable with, therefore I should do it better. Start from having my own domain not just sub domain.

Templates

Bagi saya, satu hal yang terkadang menjadi penghambat berkembangnya sebuah blog baru adalah keliru menempatkan fokus. Bukannya terus berusaha membuat konten secara konsisten, saya justru disibukkan dengan terlalu memikirkan bagaimana tampilan blog terlihat.

You can't totally blame me for that.

Masalahnya, template akan lebih sulit didapatkan wujud terbaiknya ketika tidak ada cukup konten yang bisa ditampilkan. So, it's like a closed-loop problem. Saya yang kadung capek mengurusi template, tidak termotivasi untuk membuat lebih banyak tulisan karena hasil kustomisasi visual blog yang tidak maksimal.

Let's talk about this template

It is a heavy edited template. The original template was made by a very creative young blogger — I keep the credit link at the footer below. And the other elements of this template come from different sources.

Man, it's been quite a while since the last time I edited this template. The last change was made when I was in (vocational) high school — it's years ago. I applied this template to some dummy blogs. So I could do as much as customization that I liked without risking the actual blog appearance's consistency.

I was like, just putting together every part that I like from some other templates, and I got the code without really knowing what it meant. As long as the goal, which was to look like the desired elements, was achieved, that was enough for me.

It happened quite some times until the point where I was like "It's perfect, in my way. It suits me well.". So, yeah, for me this template captures my personality in brief.

Sometimes, you just don't need any extra exposure.

I choose to use the Facebook comment system over the default one from Blogger because Facebook is still becoming my first speed dial in every internet browser that I use. So.

What about that Tumblr blog's theme?

What about it?

I think it's great, kudos to the theme creator. It shows every post format really well.

So, I guess I don't really have problems about this matter any more. Then I should keep my focus on things that are really necessary.

Release note, or sort of

Sebelum membuat blog ini, saya sudah lebih dulu membuat blog di Tumblr. Yang pada saat itu saya pikir merupakan platform yang paling tepat bagi saya. Karena saya pesimis bisa membuat tulisan yang agak panjang secara konsisten.

Jadilah blog tersebut sebagai tempat untuk menuliskan hal-hal singkat yang mendadak melintas di kepala saya, yang karena alasan tertentu, tidak bisa saya tuliskan di akun sosial media yang saya punya. And it works pretty well.

But, then, I found a hard time when I was going to write something longer. I just can't accept the fact that my writing might end up going no where, just because no one could find it in Google search result.

Seriously, somehow Tumblr blogs are just terribly difficult to be indexed by Google.

Jadilah saya mencari solusi alternatif. Once, I really considered Wordpress (the free service, of course) as an option because it's well known for being Google-friendly. But it's also a whole new environment for me, it's just too much new things to learn.

So, Blogger then.

Despite the fact that I'm already familiar with its UI, Blogger has something that kind of bugs me. Yaitu kebijakannya untuk melakukan redirect domain menyesuaikan origin country. And I have to compromise with it. Namun saya sudah menyiapkan solusinya.

Diskusi selanjutnya adalah mengenai eksistensi blog Tumblr itu. Should I delete it because of this migration? Or why should I keep it?

I decided to keep them both. Each one of them has superiority at doing something over one another.

I really love Tumblr for writing shorter stuff, thanks to its wide arrange of pre-defined post format. And I find myself more comfortable to write something longer in this blog. So, be it.

You know what's better than an okay solution? It's two-separated great solutions. Because you get the best of both worlds.

Hello world

Ini adalah tulisan pertama yang dimuat di blog ini. Blogging's never been a new thing for me. Well, more or less. Karena saya mulai mengenal hal-hal tentang blog sejak tahun terakhir saya di SMP — it's like years ago, by the way. Since then, I was kind of really into it. Bahkan sempat ada saat-saat dimana saya menganggap hal itu adalah hal yang paling penting dalam keseharian saya. But, when we talk about blogging as in 'continuously writing in a blog', that is a different story though.

I never understood the main idea of blogging, which is producing contents.

Hingga sampai di keadaan dimana semakin sedikit alasan untuk tidak memulai ulang semuanya. And this is it, in my junior year in the college, I start a blog. Never too late to start, eh? But the most important thing is not the start, right? It's the time after that...

How you manage to keep doing whatever you've started.
