Luke Cage S01E07: Manifest

Commentary

LOL. I think I might just make Luke Cage my favorite superhero.
It's like every Marvel superhero has a good sense of humor and sarcasm.

Just how the hell is he getting out?

Shit.

Verdict

Another similarity between Kingpin and Cottonmouth is their childhood being abused. Cottonmouth could've been someone different than he is. I kind of feel weird about Shades and Mariah. And I can't believe how Cottonmouth dead by her. Last scene was shit.

Luke Cage S01E06: Suckas Need Bodyguards

Commentary

Another reason to love these shows, the're getting more connected and acknowledged  to each other.

This is awkward. LOL.

Well, now it makes sense why Claire introduced since the last episode. Because the story needs a secret doctor.

Again, Misty and her reconstruction skill.

WTF. Scarfe gives another proof that even someone who cracks a lot of jokes might have something dark to hide.

Mom's power!!! LOL.

Did I just feel sorry for him? That's why a lot of people agree that Netflix shows are so good telling a story. Each one of them given enough time to be invested for the viewer.

It reminds me of Wilson Fisk's arrest back then.

Be careful, Luke. We knew what happened to Matt even when Fisk was in jail.

"Why don't we start by getting some of coffee first?" turns out to be the line for "Netflix and chill" replacement. LOL.

Verdict

Cottonmouth was arrested this episode, there's still a half of season though. So, I wonder how this happy-smiley-moment will escalate. I'm still confused what they're planning with Claire Temple. It's so weird to see her hanging around with Luke Cage for no obvious reason at all. She was a doctor. Her role in Daredevil Season 1 was amazing the way it was. I don't know how they're gonna expand it. Don't tell me she's the one who's gonna bring The Defenders together, because at this point it's not make enough sense. Tune in!

Luke Cage S01E05: Just to Get a Rep

Commentary

Dawson!!!!!!!

And she kicks some balls!

Really, Luke? Swear jar?

Who is Diamondback exactly?

What???? She never mentioned that in Daredevil.

She has no idea.

That's actually pretty funny. LOL.

LOL.

Is this what I'm thinking?

Awww. He is so sweet.
Well, she got the point, Luke.

Verdict

This episode gave us Claire Temple. It's more than just a presence, because basically she just declared her intention be a Night Nurse, like officially. For me it's really interesting to know in which direction they're gonna take her character. She was initially introduced as a supporting character in Daredevil Season 1, kind of became his love interest. But then when Jessica Jones released, she was getting more connected with these enhanced people. I heard some rumors coming from people who finished watching this show that I really want to ignore, I just want to find it out by myself.

Another interesting thing about this episode was the fact that our hero is publicly well known, and how easily he interact with the villain. I know, maybe Cottonmouth isn't the main villain, but from what we learn about Netflix MCU shows is that they tried so hard to keep the villain as mysterious as possible. So, that is new.

And then we need to talk about Misty Knight. This episode showed us the new dynamic in her relationship with Luke Cage. It's like for the most of the parts her character was used to give some conflicts for Luke, not give him an easy decision. It's interesting how they finally have some understanding toward each other.

And just by this episode I kind of realize that this show carries a new vibe to it. People in this universe are fully aware about all kind of superhero whose their stories have been told in many shows/movies. And that changed a lot of things about how they dealing with them.

Luke Cage S01E04: Step in the Arena

Commentary

He's still in one piece. That is incredible, considering he just got hit by a fucking rocket! Yeah I still can't believe he did.

Wow. He looks like a whole different person with that hair and beard.
So, I guess we will get the origin story of Luke Cage in this episode. Just like the way they did it with Daredevil and Jessica Jones, by doing a  flashback.

He was an officer? Okay, that's the first fact about Luke's former life we got. And somehow he ended up being in jail. What's next?

Okay, Luke's skin ended up being unbreakable. So, it's quite nice scene. Sending a message.

He was not Luke Cage!

Reva was gorgeous! Luke was such a lucky guy. So, there was the place where they met.

And there Shades was.

Even the Chinese woman survived from the rocket blast!

"The best way I can put this is..."
No shit, Luke.

There's always a good thing to watch your black friends debate about something. They're so funny when proving their point.

She was right.

Seagate Prison. Kind of reminds me to The Raft due to its demographic. Although that's something remote prisons have in common, guess what? They are remote, duh.

"Nah.. You can't oversee my training."
LOL.

He's been becoming the king of the ring.

At this point I don't really know what's gonna happen.

OMG! That tank!

And the procedure begins.

Yeah. Lab experiment's going wrong. Typical superheroes' origin story.

It's shown in the trailer.

Aha. LOL.

LOL. Did you mean your comic book counterpart?

That was the drive we saw in Jessica Jones?

We know nothing about her.

Wow. He revealed his identity to the public. Although in this case it's not that simple, because he is basically not the guy he used to.

Verdict

Finally we got our origin story episode. And for me they did a great job to tell it effectively. They also gave some cool easter eggs from the comics. What keeps me wondering is will Luke/Carl's former life and his relationship with Reva play certain story in the present event? So I can't wait to see the next episode. And I hope we can learn more about Reva in the next episode. I think she might play some role at whatever's going to happen to Luke Cage ahead.

Luke Cage S01E03: Who's Gonna Take the Weight

Commentary

Her expression was priceless. LOL.

Even Mike Colter himself was surprised at some of his character's lines. This is one of them.

Damn you, Luke! Even at that kind of situation you still managed to flirt a woman. LOL.

Eh?

Again! Luke!

Damn. She can even conduct a reconstruction inside her head. Just like Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock did usually. Her skill as a detective must be no joke.

I can smell something wrong about him.

For some reason I can see this coming.

LOL.

So, he works for him. Hmm, no wonder.

Damn it, Luke. LOL.

What the hell? A fucking rocket? Now that is something I can't see coming.

Verdict

It's like this episode was dedicated to Luke Cage to throw as many as his best line. And about that Scarfe's twist, while in some ways it's still surprising, it's nowhere close to a new thing in this kind of show. I had seen it in Daredevil Season 1 too. But it might be a good thing to help the complexity of the story. The big thing about this episode is that last scene. Holy crap! I still can't believe Cottonmouth used a fucking rocket to blow Luke apart. Using a fucking rocket in the middle of city when you're not even close to a war is a whole new level, even for a big criminal boss. But Luke will be just fine, I guess, in the next episode.

Holy crap, a bloody rocket was used in the middle of neighborhood! Has he lost his mind?!
